What we offer
Our Services
KaizenLAB is a full-service environmental laboratory devoted to the accurate testing of water and soil. We have the technology to test on over 400 analytical parameters and we continue to advance our methodology capabilities based on the needs of our clients.
Our company is accredited by the Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation (CALA)
to ISO 17025 for a range of parameters and has been registered by the Ministry of Environment (formerlyMELP) in British Columbia. We are also members of the Alberta Water Well Drillers Association (AWWDA), Canadian Ground Water Association (CGWA), Alberta On- site Wastewater Management Association (AOWMA), Western Canada Water and Wastewater Association (WCWWA) and WesternEnviro-Agricultural Laboratory Association (WEALA).

Soil Testing
KaizenLAB offers a large variety of soil analysis, ranging from site remediation testing to agricultural soil profiling. Whether for general, personal, or regulatory assessments, we can provide a comprehensive list of accredited soil analysis based on internationally accepted environmental testing standards.
General Salinity
Performed via saturated paste on different soil types, testing parameters may include electrical conductivity, pH, sodium adsorption ratio, and major ions, such as chloride, sulphate, calcium, magnesium, and sodium, depending on analytical needs.
General Inorganics
This category references soil examination of non-organic analytes, including individual testing of salinity parameters, ammonia and nitrogen, phenols, cyanide, an extended anion list, and ASTM analysis of sulphate, analyzed via methodologies which are constantly verified and validated for use.
Organics
Reaching compliance level standards of a wide range of carbon-based compounds, a multitude of packaged and individual analysis are available, which extend to various regulatory guidelines, such as CCME, AB Tier 1, BCMOE, and SKEQG. Parameters include BTEX, Fractions 1-4, alcohols, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, volatile hydrocarbons, extractable hydrocarbons, and many more.
Nutrients
Assessments for agricultural guidance include available nutrients, phosphorus, sulphate, nitrate, and nitrite, as well as related compounds such as ammonia. Packages of parameters are available for more convenient and cost-effective requests.
Metals
In accordance with governmental monitoring, a full range of metal elements are available for analysis, all of which can be conducted based on the specific provincial regulatory prescribed testing. Up to 36 metals may be included in a request, all of which are analyzed with the most up-to-date technological equipment, in conjunction with regulatory demands.
Physical Parameters
Additional analysis of soil comprehension includes physical tests such as grain size, moisture content, particle size by hydrometer, sand classification, and Atterberg limits, encompassing many industry requirements.
Water Testing
Water quality monitoring for types such as, drinking, ground, and wastes, are necessary in establishing municipal, provincial, and federal compliance. KaizenLAB provides many regulatory analytical assessments based on these categories, where innovative methods and equipment are used to provide results which follow industry standard accredited procedures.
General Inorganics
A wide range of inorganic analysis can be requested, depending on industry needs, either individually or packaged based. Common requests include major ions, ammonia, nitrogen, phenols, cyanide, total solids, and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), with testing conducted using optimized specialty equipment.
Organics
Offered in comprehensive water testing is trace organic analysis, where low-limit detection is available for many compounds. Well-trained technical professionals combined with a multitude of highly-sensitive equipment provides accurate and effective results for compounds of concern, such as volatile organics, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, pesticides and herbicides, oil & grease, and many more carbon-based analytes.
Microbiology
Bacteria testing is a major part of water analysis, placed under strict guidance in accordance with regulatory participation within mandatory accreditation procedures. Testing includes total and thermotolerant coliforms, E.coli, legionella, microcystin, sulphate reducing bacteria and iron related bacteria. polyaromatic hydrocarbons, volatile hydrocarbons, extractable hydrocarbons, and many more.
Drinking Water Packages
Understanding that public health is at the forefront of environmental testing, drinking water packages are a convenient way to manage parameters required for regulatory submission. Packages often include potability of water, regulated coliforms, and drinking water metals.
Salinity
Packages include inorganic parameters based on basic requirements for different types of water sources, such as electrical conductivity, pH, major ions, as well as calculated parameters, such as sodium adsorption ratio and hardness of water.
Metals
With governmental regulatory limits steadily decreasing in order to keep our water sources safe, KaizenLAB stays ready in compliance with the most up to date instrumentation that provides confident levels of analysis of metals, in the categories of natural occurrence and contamination. With a wide range of metals available for dissolved and total metals, limits from drinking water to aquatic life sustainability are easily obtained, providing accurate data via standardized accredited methods.
Drilling Waste Testing
Water quality monitoring for types such as, drinking, ground, and wastes, are necessary in establishing municipal, provincial, and federal compliance. KaizenLAB provides many regulatory analytical assessments based on these categories, where innovative methods and equipment are used to provide results which follow industry standard accredited procedures.
General
Offering oil and gas regulatory testing for drilling waste includes package parameters such as toxicity (Microtox) analysis, salinity, hydrocarbons, and metals, in accordance to provincial acceptance criteria. Nearly all waste types are accepted, including chemicals used for drilling purposes
Landfill
Waste characterization follows strict methodology adherence, where prescribed approved procedures are required. Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan landfill regulations may all be processed, which includes the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) on various analytes, such as BTEX, metals, hexavalent chromium, and cyanide, as well as flash point, paint filter, and oil & grease requirements.
